Our Cinema

Established in September 2016 the cinema was created with three objectives in mind.

  • The provision and organisation of recreational activities by improving access to films and associated activities through delivery of a community cinema so that wellbeing and quality of life are improved

  • The advancement of the arts, heritage and culture within the local community particularly but not exclusively through film and cinema.

  • The advancement of education through the medium of film with the result that conditions, and quality of life are improved.

We are a small group of volunteers with a passion for community and cinema, eager to see how far our imagination and innovation takes us.

Feel like a celebrity and walk down our very own red carpet direct into our screening.  The smell of fresh popcorn will fill the air from our Popcorn Machine, ask one of our lovely volunteers for the flavour of the day.  We also have a tuck shop with crisps, lollies, juice and a ‘fill your own’ tub with a wide selection of sweeties at the bargain price of £1.50.  Why not try one of our cinema snacks, we alternate between hot dogs and nachos.

Our vast programming caters for all from Dumbo (1941), It’s a Wonderful Life, Mamma Mia 2, Avengers Infinity War and everything in between.

All welcome from near and far.

Wayne Hayles

Convenor

My name is Wayne and I volunteer because I believe the true cinema experience where communities get together has been lost in the multiplexes, Community Cinema can give us this back and allow us to view new and classic films in a different light.  I think that movies can help educate, entertain and mould minds.  I love how people are positively affected by their cinema experience when they come to us in so many different ways.

My favourite movie is Bruce Lee’s ’Fists of Fury’

Favourite quote:  “Mother is the name of God on the lips and hearts of all children” The Crow

Isaac Gilmour

Projectionist/founder

My name is Isaac and I volunteer at the cinema.  It is fun and interesting and something I’d never heard of anyone else doing before.

My favourite films are The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Editions.  If I had a quote it would be Boromir on his death bed when he tells Aragon that he’s his king “ I would have followed you my brother, my Captain, my King.”

Susan Taylor

Hi I’m Susan and I love volunteering with the cinema. I’m a primary teacher and I love a good story, whether it’s in a book or on a screen. I particularly enjoy superheroes, adventure, action and comedy.  I’m delighted that Kelty Community Cinema are giving the local community a chance to see some fantastic movies in an affordable, relaxed environment.

My favourite movie quote is “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” – Galadriel (Lord of the Rings)

I started volunteering with the cinema by default after my hubby, Wayne became involved in May 2018.  Our whole family is now involved, and I love being involved in the community especially when it has a positive impact for my family and neighbours.

My favourite movie is difficult to choose, but after watching Elvis, it’s just incredible.

Favourite quote would be: “Our fate lives within us you only have to be brave enough to see it” Brave

We volunteer as it is such a great thing to do for a local community.  Larger cinemas can be quite expensive for tickets or even travelling too never mind adding snacks and juice.  Kelty Community Cinema offers great films at a fantastic price but also a relaxed family atmosphere.  It is a good way to see films and spend time with family & friends right on your doorstep.  Without volunteers this would not happen.

Favourite Movie would be ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’.

Favourite Quote would be “Every day may not be good but there is good in everyday”
